2 Options For Dealing With A Wet Foundation

by Christine Matthews

If you are noticing that you have a lot of water around your basement or foundation, you want to make sure that you get that taken care of as soon as possible. There are various ways that you can handle the problem. So, what kind of things can you do?

French Drains

One thing that you can do is to have French drains installed outside your house. These drains are actually trenches that are dug parallel to your house. At the bottom of the trench, there will be some gravel and then a pipe with holes that will lead away from your house and toward a safe place to drain water, like a storm drain, and then another layer of gravel before the trench is covered up with dirt. The gravel will keep dirt from clogging the holes in the pipe and will allow water to drip down into the holes of the pipe so that it gets taken away from your house. That way it won't get into your basement and cause any damage or any further damage to your foundation.

Another option is to have waterproofing material applied to the inside of your basement or foundation. There are various ways that you can do this. One of them is to use a polymer material that is applied like paint. When this material is painted onto your walls, then you are going to get a water-resistant barrier that will keep water from coming into your basement or foundation. While this will keep water out of your house, it won't necessarily keep water out of your foundation altogether. Instead, for that you are going to have contractors come and do some additional work for you. That can include having your foundation excavated and then moisture barriers installed around your foundation and then your foundation will get covered back up. While the contractors are doing that, they can also repair any of the damage that has already happened to your foundation. Even the smallest crack from water can start to cause your foundation to crumble, and if the waterproofing material doesn't work as well as it should, then the water can get into those little cracks and cause more damage to your foundation.

If you are worried about your foundation or you notice that you have water in your basement or your foundation, then you should get some contractors in to take a look and give you some options.

About Me

Restoring Your Home To Earn More Money

I have always loved the idea of finding an older home and making it beautiful, but a few years ago I was left struggling with what to do with a home that seemed beyond repair. It was old, outdated, and incredibly damaged, but I knew that I could make things better by doing a few things a little differently. I began to work with a professional contractor to identify different areas that we should start on, and within a few short weeks things were moving along. This website is all about restoring your home to earn more money, and knowing how to identify challenges that you can't fix on your own.
